Katherine Swampy is a mother of 5 biological children, 4 boys, 1 girl, but has also raised 2 brother in laws, 2 nephews, and 2 nieces.

Katherine is a Business Development Senior Manager, creating and supporting Indigenous and women in businesses.

She is an indigenous leader, advocate, and academic.

She served as a Band Councillor for the Samson Cree Nation (SCN) for 6 years, but left as she ran to become a Member of Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and also ran to become a Member of Parliament for Canada. Katherine stays active on Provincial and Federal politics continuing her advocacy, and is active on numerous boards and committees.

Swampy also dances and teaches young girls the Jingle Dress Dance and how to sew traditional regalia. Katherine also counsels suicidal youth in her community. She has been an advocate for Women’s rights, MMIWG, Indigenous Peoples, Environment, and LGTBQ2S+.

Katherine holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Economics and a minor in Political Studies, a Master of Public Policy Administration, a Master of Philosophy, and is currently in her PhD.

She has also been fighting for First Nations Rights since she was as young as eleven years old.
