Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I’m Owen Madden—small business owner, organic farmer, and Green Party candidate for Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies. I'm running to support rural communities, boost local economies, and tackle the climate crisis with practical, experience-based solutions.

My journey began across the ocean in Ireland, where I worked as a lawyer, but a conversation with a farmer about the impact of climate change changed everything. I moved to Canada, worked in environmental law with Ecojustice and the Wilderness Committee, and eventually became an organic farmer.

In Grindrod, my partner and I co-founded Shuswap Organics and Nature Delivered, focusing on providing fresh, healthy, local food and helping farmers transition to climate-resilient practices. I understand firsthand the challenges rural communities face, from rising costs to the climate crisis.

Now, I’m running for office to bring that experience to Ottawa—fighting for sustainable solutions that prioritize people, local economies, and the environment. Whether it's affordable housing, improved healthcare access, or climate action, I’m committed to building a better future for all of us.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I’m running because our communities deserve leadership that listens, acts, and cares—for people, for the land, and for the future. We need bold, honest solutions to the climate crisis, affordability, and rural sustainability. I believe we can do better—together.

Living and farming in the North Okanagan, I see how hard people are working just to stay afloat. Families are struggling with the cost of living. Young people can’t afford homes in the communities they grew up in. Our health care system is stretched thin. And all the while, the climate crisis is accelerating—threatening our farms, forests, and future.

I’ve spent my life standing up for what matters. Whether it was advocating for climate justice through environmental law, or helping local farmers build more resilient food systems, I’ve always believed that change starts locally and grows through collaboration.

I’m running with the Green Party because we don’t answer to corporate donors or political insiders—we answer to people. And I’m running because I know this region—Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies—has the potential to lead the way in building healthy, vibrant, and sustainable rural communities.

I want to bring that voice to Ottawa—your voice—and help shape a future we can all believe in.
