Tax measures and rebates
Liberal's promise
"This middle-class tax cut will save two-income families up to $825 a year, by reducing the marginal tax rate on the lowest tax bracket by 1 percentage point. More than 22 million Canadians will benefit directly from this tax cut, and middle- and low-income Canadians will benefit the most." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14

Manufacturing
Liberal's promises
"Create a $2 billion Strategic Response Fund to boost our auto sector’s competitiveness, protect manufacturing jobs, support workers to upskill their expertise in the industry, and build a fortified Canadian supply chain – from raw materials to finished vehicles." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14
"Build an “All-in-Canada” network for auto manufacturing component parts. With this network, we will work with industry to build more car parts in Canada, limit those parts crossing the border during production, and attract investment into our own industry." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14

National defence
Liberal's promises
"Expand the capabilities of the Navy with new submarines and additional heavy icebreakers to defend the North." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14
"Creating a first-in-class drone capability that will build and deploy aquatic and airborne uncrewed vehicles to defend our arctic, our undersea infrastructure, our borders, and our allies. This new capability will be matched with an industrial strategy that builds and perfects these technologies so that Canadian companies benefit from Canadian procurements." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14
"We will expand the reach and abilities of the Canadian Coast Guard and integrate them into our NATO defence capabilities. Our Coast Guard carries out important work, but we need to update their mission to face changing realities to protect our sovereignty and counter criminal activity, like the trafficking of illicit drugs. That’s why we will give the Canadian Coast Guard a new mandate—and the right equipment—to conduct maritime surveillance operations to secure our coasts." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14
"We will modernize our procurement legislation to ensure our Forces can buy the equipment that they need, when they need it—which is now. We can also swiftly surpass our existing defence spending targets and bolster our capabilities by investing in dual purpose infrastructure—whether housing, cybersecurity, or satellite technology—that delivers immediate benefits for both our Forces and the public." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14
"We will end the chronic lapsing of defence spending, through the creation of a defence capital account that ensures that even when the timing of an investment changes, every dollar assigned to Canada’s defence will remain for that purpose." — liberal.ca, retrieved 2025-04-14
Biography
Whether in the E.R. or in Ottawa, Marcus has shown up for Northwestern Ontario.
Born in Fort William, Marcus has strong family connections to Northwestern Ontario. His grandmother (Baba) ran Annie’s Confectionary on East Brock Street in Fort William for over 60 years. His grandfather Michael repaired shoes on Simpson Street was later a lineman on the CPR. His parents Peter and Elizabeth owned and operated Strawberry Hill Workshop in Kaministiquia for many years.
Educated at Harvard, Georgetown, and the University of Toronto, Marcus gave back by practicing medicine in poor and remote communities. Marcus practiced medicine for two years in northern First Nations communities and for seven years in Swaziland, The Gambia, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu.
Marcus never had any doubt about where home was, and he brought his family back to Thunder Bay in 2003 and began working in the Emergency Room at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where he would stay for the next 15 years.
In addition to practicing medicine, Marcus also earned a law degree, a Masters of Public Health in Health Law and Policy, and a Masters of Law, and has taught at several universities, including Lakehead University and the University of San Francisco.
Marcus believes strongly in Franklin D. Roosevelt’s statement that, “[t]he test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have little.” He also believes that, as Lester B. Pearson once said, “the only failures are those who fail to try” and, in the words of Wayne Gretzky, “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
As the father of six children, when not practicing medicine – or quoting famous politicians and Hall of Famers – Marcus is spending time with his kids and being a regular hockey dad who enjoys the occasional beer and a good hockey game. For Marcus, his kids are the reason why he ran for office – to make sure they are left with a country that is strong, healthy and focused on the betterment of all people.
Marcus served most recently on the Standing Committee on Health and the Standing Committee on National Defence, in which he has advocated tirelessly for the interests and values of Northwestern Ontario. He is also a member of the Northern Ontario Liberal Caucus, the Rural Liberal Caucus, the International Human Rights Caucus, and the Ukrainian-Canadian Friendship Group.
In the meantime, you can learn more about them on their website.
